Energy conservation Energy conservation has been diversely interpreted as meaning (1) increasing the efficiency or productivity of energy use to maintain or increase economic output with less energy; (2) accommodating behavior by curtailing (rationing or “doing without”) energy; and (3) switching to more abundant energy sources.
